Every new year means a new Call of Duty game, and this year’s game is being developed by Infinity Ward.

To maintain Call of Duty’s annual cycle of new games, Activision is rotating development between Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer, with support from other studios.

Infinity Ward once again came to the fore as it developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone previously released in 2019. Infinity Ward’s official Twitter account confirmed the news, saying, “The next generation of Call of Duty is coming very soon.”

This could mean that given the critical acclaim and commercial success of Working on a sequel to the Modern Warfare franchise in 2019.

As far as features and stories go, Activision is keeping all of these details a secret for now. In its most recent financial reports, Activision says Infinity Ward is “working on the most ambitious plan in series history, with industry-leading innovations and an overall engaging environment for series development.”

Last year Activision released Call of Duty: Vanguard, developed by Sledgehammer. The WWII setting had “lower premium sales” compared to its predecessor, 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Similarly, attendance for Call of Duty: Warzone also declined over the quarter.
