UK markets fell at close;  Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.59%

Investing.com – UK stocks were lower after Thursday’s close Mining , Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology and Healthcare Equipment & Services fell , as industry stocks fell.

At the close in London , the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 was down 1.59%. The best performers of the session Melrose Industries PLC (LON: ) ) are up 4.19% or 6.60 points to trade at 164.30. Vodafone Group PLC (LON: VOD ) rose 1.22% or 1.52 points to 126.00 at Severn Trent PLC (LON: SVT ) rose 0.49% or 14.00 points to trade at 2.00.

The session’s worst performer Carnival PLC (LON: CCL ) fell 9.18% or 88.40 points to trade at 874.60 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON: SBRY ) traded at 209.40, down 5.85% or 13.00 points, while WPP PLC (LON: WPP ) fell 4.49% or 41.00 points to trade at 871.80.

While the number of shares that fell in value was 1334 on the London Stock Exchange, the number of shares that appreciated was set at 525. In addition, 435 shares remained stable.

J Sainsbury PLC (LON: SBRY ) shares fell 5.85% or 13.00 to a 52-week low at 209.40. WPP PLC (LON: WPP ) shares fell 4.49% or 41.00 to a 52-week low at 871.80.

Gold futures for August delivery fell 0.20% or 3.80 to trade at $1.00 an ounce. Elsewhere in commodities, crude oil WTI futures for July delivery fell 0.29%, or 0.36%, to trade at $121.75 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil futures for August delivery fell 0.18%, or 0.22, to trade at $123.36 a barrel.

GBP/USD is stable at 0.20%, trading at 1.25 while EUR/GBP remains stable at 0.85, holding 0.40%.

Dollar index futures were up 0.49% to trade at 103.05.
